Religious Education
Religious Education is at the centre of all that we do and underpins the whole of the curriculum. A substantial part of our curriculum time (10%) is spent studying Religious Education and the children take part in discussions, reflections, written tasks etc which not only increases their knowledge of God, but also teaches good Christian values which we hope will stay with them once they move on to secondary school.
PRAYER SERVICES
Advent, Lent, month of October/May
MASS
We celebrate school Masses regularly throughout the school year and on feast days. We welcome parents, carers and parishioners to join the staff and the children on these special occasions.
SACRAMENTS
Confirmation Year 6
Holy Communion/Reconciliation Y3
When preparing the children for the Sacraments, we see every teacher taking an active part in the formation of the children as they journey through the life of the Church and school. Subject to our Admissions criteria, we may manage to admit some non-Catholics into each year group. At Ss Peter & Paul school, we rejoice in the diversity and richness that each individual has to offer. These children receive the same religious entitlement as the other children and whilst they don’t receive the Sacraments, they do receive the benefits of our teaching on good wholesome values and positive citizenship.
WE WORSHIP AS A SCHOOL FAMILY
The school community gathers to pray regularly through Whole School Assemblies which take place on Monday mornings and Friday mornings.
Each class prays at the beginning, middle and end of each day
Prayer services and Masses as above.
Our aim is to create a stimulating, safe and happy atmosphere where education can take place within a loving Christian community. We recognise and reward examples of positive and good behaviour at every available opportunity. Our adult carers are a dedicated team of professionals who promote positive values in the children both in and outside the classroom through their own example and by teaching in Assemblies, RE lessons and Personal, Social and Health Education.
As a voluntary aided Catholic School the basic religious ethos is to be found across the whole curriculum and not just within the RE timetable. The whole aim of the school is the Christian growth of the children, not simply their growth in their own faith, but their growing awareness of the world.
For good work, effort, honesty, helpfulness, success, courage and other qualities, children are praised orally and in writing, offered House Points, or mentioned in school assemblies. Whenever suitable, parents are informed of such praise.
Pastoral care is exercised by the Class Teacher where necessary, in consultation with the Headteacher and parents.
Discipline in the school is along Christian lines. The purpose is to develop the character of the pupil to respect their own person and their belongings, and to respect other people and their property. I am happy to say that serious cases of bad behaviour are rare at Ss Peter & Paul. When this occurs letters are sent home or invitations offered to parents to visit and discuss the pupil.
