Notification of Absence – Holiday in Term Time

The Department of Education has instructed our school to improve school attendance levels with an agreed target of 95%.  When OFSTED inspectors next visit our school they will be examining strategies which we have adopted to reach this target and will make judgements accordingly.

It has been a practice in most primary schools that, in the case of parents’ annual holiday from their employment falling in term time and with the Headteacher’s approval, pupils may take two weeks holiday during the term with a ‘vacation’ mark being recorded in the class register.  In these circumstances the absence is deemed to be ‘authorised’.

We seek the support of parents in our drive to improve attendance at Ss Peter & Paul School and request that applications to take children out of school during term time are kept to an absolute minimum.  The maximum authorised holiday, if approved by the Headteacher, is two weeks of term time.  All additional days of absence will be deemed as unauthorised, recorded in the child’s education records and reported to the Education Welfare Service.
